Anyone and everyone.
Dr. Rolf believed everyone, from children to adults, can benefit from Rolfing Structural Integration due to the natural disorder and compensation in our bodies. Those with injury or trauma, especially if traditional treatments have been ineffective, should consider Rolfing SI. This includes athletes, musicians, performers, those in physically demanding jobs, and anyone refusing to let aging diminish their quality of life.
Even without injuries, Rolfing SI can enhance body conditioning and functionality. Whether you're athletic, perform repetitive tasks, or seek overall comfort, Rolfing sessions can restore flexibility, increase balance, revitalize energy, and make you feel more at home in your body.

You should not have to experience any pain, but there may be some discomfort. Communicate any discomfort to the Rolfer.
Some associate Rolfing Structural Integration with pain, often based on early anecdotal experiences from its inception when it was more intense and less refined, akin to emotionally intense therapies of the late 1960s and early 70s.
Comfort during a Rolfing session depends on factors such as the client's trauma level and the duration of fascial distortions in their body. Long-term distortions may necessitate sustained pressure for release, varying among practitioners based on their approach.
Prospective clients are encouraged to discuss pressure preferences with multiple Rolfers and experience sessions to assess intensity levels and resulting benefits firsthand.

Rolfing® is the original brand of Structural Integration, which is its own modality, not a form of massage.
One common misconception about Rolfing Structural Integration is that it's merely a deep massage. While various massages effectively relax tight tissues, reduce stress, and enhance relaxation, Rolfing SI offers unique benefits. Certified Advanced Rolfer Ray McCall succinctly describes our approach with three words: palpation, discrimination, and integration. We palpate to assess tissue imbalances, discriminate to separate adhered fascial layers and realign strained muscles, and integrate the body for improved structural balance in gravity. Unlike many massages, Rolfing SI systematically reshapes and reorganizes human structure according to Dr. Rolf's principles, offering lasting results beyond immediate relief.

Rolfing Structural Integration strives to align and balance the body’s components until the entire system is a smoothly functioning coordinated whole.
For instance, Rolfing SI aligns legs with hips, shoulders with rib cage, and centers the body over feet, integrating joints and tissues. Benefits include reduced pain, enhanced flexibility, heightened body awareness, and improved posture.
These changes stem from Rolfing SI's focus on the body's fascial system—a network of connective tissues surrounding muscles, joints, and influencing the nervous system. Similar to guide wires, tight fascia can cause joint pain, muscle soreness, or posture issues.
Through gentle pressure, Rolfers release fascial tension, allowing the body to regain balance and health. This process is thought to activate mechanoreceptors, prompting the nervous system to relax muscles and fascia.
In essence, Rolfing SI enables the nervous system to recalibrate overstimulated areas, promoting pain-free movement and structural harmony.

The cornerstone of Rolfing Structural Integration is the Ten-Series, a structured series of ten sessions designed to systematically balance and optimize the body's structure and movement.
Each session targets specific areas of restriction or tension within the body, while the practitioner maintains a holistic perspective to ensure a comfortable and harmonious transformational process.

Clients often experience reduced stress and increased comfort in their bodies through Rolfing SI.
Many seek relief from high stress levels that impact daily life, initially trying allopathic treatments like muscle relaxants and painkillers, or alternative methods such as exercise, meditation, and yoga. While these may offer temporary relief, those looking for a more permanent solution often find success with Rolfing SI. By integrating and balancing the body and psyche, Rolfing SI enhances comfort in the gravitational field, leading to decreased physical and emotional stress over time. Ultimately, the client's personal experience of improved well-being is the most significant outcome of the process.

When touching the physical body, one inevitably touches the emotional body as well.
Everyone develops compensatory patterns in response to physical and emotional traumas.
While emotional catharsis isn't typically sought after by Rolfers, they approach clients with reverence and compassion. Emotional areas are addressed slowly and with ongoing communication.
Occasionally, unexpected memories may surface during sessions. Rolfers aim to create a safe space for their release, integrating them into the client's physical and emotional experience with care to minimize any distress.
While Rolfers support clients through emotional experiences, they are not trained as therapists. Emotional release, though impactful, is not the primary goal of Rolfing, which focuses on integrating and balancing connective tissue.
